Wall Art in Albuquerque

NM Mural of Indian WomanDuring my visit to Albuquerque, New Mexico last week I stumbled upon three artists painting one of the most beautiful wall murals I have ever seen. The artists, Werc, Crow and Gera are collaborators in a project, La Entrada, based in San Diego, CA. They are part of a team of artists that create “enlightened and creative communities around the world through public art…” (http://www.thelaentradaproject.com/). I asked the artists to explain their process for painting a wall and Gera said that with this particular mural they each designed a third and then collaborated to meld the segments together. The inspiration for the portrait of the Native American woman came from a photograph Werc had taken. The artists had started the wall the day before and were hoping to finish a few hours after I had created this image.

BEAUTIFUL. IT IS SAD TO KNOW THAT IN SOME COUNTRIES (SPAIN…AMONG OTHERS) THEY ARE STILL REFERRING TO THAT TYPE OF WORK, AS THE WORK OF “GRAFITEROS”, AND ARE EVEN DESTROYING THE WALLS TO GET RID OF IT.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING. HEARD THAT PETER IS WITH TOM. I’M GLAD. MARGARITA

Great shot. I gave done a lot of shooting of street art around the world but by far the best place is Melbourne here in Aust where the local councils have encouraged it. Much of it is just amazing and certain areas of the inner city are tourist attractions for that reason. Some people are so talented. Hope u r well – have a good t’giving. I will miss it! M

Beautiful. I wish more concrete buildings were enhanced through this beautiful art form. Hope your Thanksgiving was delicious and meaningful.
