During my visit to Albuquerque, New Mexico last week I stumbled upon three artists painting one of the most beautiful wall murals I have ever seen. The artists, Werc, Crow and Gera are collaborators in a project, La Entrada, based in San Diego, CA. They are part of a team of artists that create “enlightened and creative communities around the world through public art…” (http://www.thelaentradaproject.com/). I asked the artists to explain their process for painting a wall and Gera said that with this particular mural they each designed a third and then collaborated to meld the segments together. The inspiration for the portrait of the Native American woman came from a photograph Werc had taken. The artists had started the wall the day before and were hoping to finish a few hours after I had created this image.
