Dia de los Muertos

Day of the Dead-1Day of the Dead-2Day of the Dead-3

The Atlanta History Center celebrated Dia de los Muertos today. In the Mexican culture, this is a day to remember and honor those who have departed with celebration and special foods. Today’s festival was teeming with people who came to enjoy the musical and dance performances, authentic Mexican eats, crafts and art displays. Face-painting was by far the most popular activity and folks of all ages stood in line at least an hour for the opportunity to have a skull painted on their faces. Although skulls are often viewed as being morbid, these skulls were beautifully painted in bright colors to create a sense of positivity which is at the heart of Dia de los Muertos.
